Facing Boko Haram: The Life of Christians in Nigeria

At SPC are very pleased to present a video briefing on the situation in northeastern Nigeria, where the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram has inflicted so much pain and suffering. This video was a collaborative effort between SPC and Jordan Allott – one of the most talented documentary videographers at work today. The testimonials of the victims of Boko Haram in this video were filmed by Jordan.

One of the reasons we are so fond of this video is because we want you to know the story of Oliver Doeme, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri – which is also the birthplace of Boko Haram. Bishop Doeme is one of the most courageous leaders in the Christian Church anywhere in the world; he walks the streets of Maiduguri in his cassock, to give courage to his flock.

The recently-elected president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, ordered his military to eradicate Boko Haram by the end of last year. That goal was not achieved, but we are confident that Boko Haram will be defeated this year, and then the task of rebuilding Bishop Doeme’s churches, and the churches of all denominations, can begin.
